THE INTERFACE OF THREE AREAS OF COMPUTER SCIENCE WITH THE MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES

A Workshop Sponsored by the National Academies and the National Science Foundation,
April 28-29, 2000

The purpose of this workshop is to explore the interface of three areas of computer science with the mathematical sciences. The three areas covered will be network traffic, computer vision, and data mining and search techniques. The goals of this workshop are to demonstrate the potential for additional cooperation between the two disciplines, begin building some new research collaborations, and---if the participants believe the National Academies can help stimulate this interface---help define an Academy activity to address that need.
