Roland stared out into the blackness for a very long time. It was not really black. It was more of an absence of color and light. Truth be told it was a complete absence of anything and everything. Which was completely different than the land on which he stood. The sky, ground, rocks, and vegetation were a riot of color, texture, smell and even sound. But they were not in any discernable order. It was as if some great being took all of the colors, all of the sounds, tastes, feelings, and rules and just dropped them at the edge of this great hole. To make things even stranger it was as if this great being forgot to use adhesive and everything was constantly changing... shifting.

It was to expected, he supposed, in a place called Chaos next to the Abyss. The only things not in a constant state of flux were himself his mother and his uncle. Not that this place didn't try. He could feel the pull and prodding but he, and the rest of his family, were too stable, too real, to be affected. He thought it would drive him mad at first until he had a small epiphany, or it could have been something that Ygg showed him. This place was NATURAL. This is how it was supposed to be here. If anything, he was the oddity. Once he accepted that fact he found himself much less distressed. It was kind of pretty...

"He's awfully quiet," whispered Bleys to his mother, "Do you think it broke his mind? This place is quite a shock and we just suddenly Trumped in..."

"Unlikely," she responded. Roland could feel her eyes on his back. After a pause she whispered back to Bleys, "He is not like us. He can absorb more at glance then you or I can after months of studying."

"He is that intelligent?"

"Hardly. In fact, he can be exasperatingly dense," she either didn't think Roland could hear her or she did not care, "He is just very intuitive."

After a moment of silence, he heard Bleys chuckle.

"So that's it then. All this traveling is not solely for his benefit. You, my dear sister, are studying him. Almost like an experiment to see how he will react."

It was quiet for a long time before he heard Bleys chuckle softly again. Roland turned and looked at them. Bleys had a wide grin and his mother was staring off into the Abyss, not looking at either of them.

"Anything else?"

"No, Roland," replied his mother as she turned away from the Pit and started walking away without looking at him, "We can go now."
