If you want to do this extra-credit assignment, then sometime between now and November 22nd you need to submit a "how-to guide" explaining some digital editing technique. The technique must have several steps involved, and can not be something that is fully automated. If in doubt, I would advise asking me in advance if the subject of your how-to guide is acceptable. We have seen a few already (such as levels adjustments) so you would be expected to explore things in more depth if you selected something we have seen in class.
Your guide may be submitted as a web page (or series of web pages) or as a PowerPoint slide show or as a short video. If you have a different way in which you'd like to create the guide, please ask me in advance. These guides may be seen and evaluated by others outside of this class.
Your guide needs to include screenshots or video camptures of the screen showing the technique being performed. To capture a screenshot of the entire screen, you can press the PrintScreen key on most Windows machines. To capture a shot of only the currently active window, you can press Alt-PrintScreen. After capturing a shot, you need to paste it into a paint program and then save it. To capture a copy of the current screen on a Mac running OS X, press the keyboard combination of Command-Shift-3. This will either create a PDF file or a PNG file on your desktop. To capture only part of the screen, press Command-Shift-4 and then click and drag to indicate the capture region.
Your guide can cover a more advanced version of a technique we've seen in class, or you can share a technique you have learned outside of class. A novice needs to be able to follow your guide. Your guide should include a test image that the user can take and use to walk through the technique.
Your guide should be submitted to me via e-mail at egolubUMD@gmail.com. If you create a video guide, please post it to someplace like YouTube and just e-mail me the link to the video.
