The following is a basic description of one of the five project options
available this term.
The general project 1 rules and
hardware rules
apply to whichever specific project option you choose.
Computer Science Instructional Center Kiosk
You must design a stand-alone kiosk application that is intended to sit
either in the lobby of the CSIC or by the elevators in the CSIC.
It should assist anyone who would have reason to be in the building to
to find what they have come to campus for. You will
have to learn what information people require, but you might imagine it
should include at least information about the department, classes,
student events, how to get to the A.V. Williams Building, etc. The
actual list is actually quite long... Even though you
are potential users, you should not think that all users are like you.
Your goal should be to create a system that could actually be used in the
building (if you make something impressive, we might be able to get
one installed). Since the building is used for more than just CMSC
classes, and the building is not the only building on
campus, you should consider having some secondary information that
other visitors to the building might need.
Your job is to design and implement a system that could actually be used
by the department. Your kiosk can have an Internet connection if you so
choose.
