Homework 5 - Option 1
Your assignment under this option is to perform a heuristic evaluation of www.umd.edu and then prepare a redesign prototype (either actual HTML or "Photoshop"ed images). While you are not required to interview users to come up with representative tasks to help you in your walkthrough, you should at a minimum think about what tasks are likely yourself.

You may look at other university and college home pages to get a sense of how things might be laid out, but your final redesign needs to reflect this campus and your understanding of design. You need to mention any sites you visit in your write-up.

You only have to design the "organizational" pages (ie: the entire home page and any second-level pages that you might recommend to help organize the site) but from there you can link to existing department, college, campus information, etc. pages.

This report should be written in a professional manner. The target audience should be considered to be a University Senate committee looking into ways to improve the home page to support student and visitor goals.

You may use any design tool available for HTML authoring, such as FrontPage, Netscape Composer, etc. or code directly in HTML. You can also create realistic screenshots using a "painting" program and give a clear guide as to which links go to which pages. You need to do your development on a local machine and not on the web itself. This means that you will need to zip (or tar and compress) the directory you create with you web pages and e-mail that to me. To repeat, your web page may not be on the web itself.

The written portions should be turned in at class time. Any HTML files should be sent to me at eg43405@wam.umd.edu.
