A Midsummer's Dream

I bought this out of interest, but was turned off when it didn't have english. Still, I got into it, and found it was a beautiful, charming story, accentuated by little bits of drama, comedy, and ultimately, tradgedy. <br /> <br />The graphics are top notch. Truly, an art form in animation, gorgeous to look at and very gripping in their presentation. these alone convey the emotions of the characters, further brought to life by the vocals. Like most "choose your own adventure" stories, this one allows you to literally change the future of the main character's life. Passwords, the DVD's equivalent to scene selection, can be accessed by pushing the menu button, and this will give an eight-digit password to that point in the story. <br /> <br />A word to (and from) the wise: plan on spending a good deal of time with this DVD. There are many plot twists and minute changes that can alter the future, for better or for worse. I myself have played through this DVD only once so far, but it still took me nearly two days, and that was with the unhappy ending, which ends halfway through the game. <br /> <br />Despite its minor flaws, it is a sweet, compelling tale of love, devotion, and conflicting emotions, all bundled together throught the magic of Japanese artwork. Another great interactive anime DVD, but needs passwords

From the makers of PHANTOM OF INFERNO comes this, an interactive anime teenage love story with a dash of surreal sci-fi. <br /> <br />You play the role of Kotaro Seno, ordinary high school guy who is looking forward to summer vacation. Kotaro lives next door to Ai Senou, a girl your age and life-long childhood friend. Ai lives with her father (her mother passed away some time ago,) who works at his own home-owned fish resteraunt Uomasa, at his own house. Ai is ditsy, extreamly clumsy and a crybaby (say, could she be related to Sailor Moon?) yet she is also the manager of the boy's soccor club, though probably because she'll gladly take care of whatever tasks they ask of her, such as laundry. Ai often asks Kotaro for rides on his bike so as not to be late for school. She also comes over to his house every night to play his racing video game, even though he always beats her. <br /> <br />At school Kotaro is a member of the boxing club, pressured into it by his other friend, emotionally surpressed Tokieda Takeshi, boxing champ and president of the club. (The club is minscule, consisting of only one more member other than Takeshi and Kotaro.) And there is Tomomi Yanagihara, a rather unconventional biology teacher who also takes a deep interest in supernatural phenomenon. She is wont to doing things like wacking her students on the back of the head with the corner of her attendence board for standing out in the middle of the hall and calling them names like "stupid losers" when she gets annoyed with them. <br /> <br />The most popular girl in school is Kaho Serizawa, drama club member and daughter of a famos, rich painter who lives on top of the hill in a grandious mansion. Beautiful, intelligent and well-poised, Kaho is sought after by every guy in school, including Kotaro. He yearns desperately to go out with her, but can't even work up the nerve to talk to her. <br /> <br />At the student's favorite after school hangout, Paradise Cafe, an American diner-themed resteraunt, Kotaro discusses with his friends his desire to ask out Kaho, and they tell him she's out of his league. He asks Ai to introduce him to Kaho, and she reluctantly agrees. <br /> <br />Later that night, the night of July 14th, (in Japan summer vacation is only one month long,) as he's walking home, Kotaro finds himself being stalked. It turns out to be a young woman in a trench coat, hat and shades. Upon accidentally running into her, she spills a stange powder on him that smells like bathroom cleaner. She runs off and he goes home where Ai awaits. He beats her at let another round of video game racing, and then she goes home and he prepars for bed. Then suddenly he is assaulted by the strange fragrence of the powder, as well as rainbow-like colors and an odd ringing sound. The next morning he wakes up and goes to school, and finds that, increadably, it's already September 1st. He learns that he has indeed been dating Kaho, but now the whole school is in mourning because, tragically she was killed in a terrible accident just the day before. Kotaro suddenly finds himself jumping back and fourth through time between the days of July 14th. and September 1st., always when he goes to bed and always greeted by the ringing, the smells and the colors. Sometimes he goes a couple days passing time normally, then unexpectedly jumps forward a couple days or back several days. He can never tell for certain when he'll jump or to what day he'll arrive in. Can he beat fate and save Kaho from her untimely end? Who was the woman he ran into? Can Tomoi help him? <br /> <br />The story was excellent and the characters were all likeable and intresting, and I wanted to see what happened to them how things turned out based on what desicions I made. But now here's one major design flaw: there are NO passwords. Meaning, in other words, that every time you restart the game/story, you have to begin all the way back at the beginning. Passwords are the interactive DVD equivelent to a scene selection. You make certain decisions, and every now and then you come to a screen that shows a certain password of how to get to that point in the story after making those desicions. Begin at the beginning and make different desicions and you get different passwords, since your different choices have different consequences later on. Here, however, there are now passwords to be found. Couple that with the fact that the story actually takes sometime to tell all the way through (the first time I played through an entire story from beginning to end I ended up making a grand total of 58 choices,) and you should be prepaired to devote the better part of a day playing through this disk. On the plus side, it is possible to fast-forward through until you get to the next option, so if you have to start all over again before completing the story you can fast-forward to each option, making the same choices as you did last time, until you reach the point you left off. <br /> <br />In short, this DVD is still highly recomended, but it REALLY needs passwords. DescriptionIt's a summer vacation that crosses the boundaries of space and time! The main character is living the normal life of a high school student. Right before summer vacation he makes up his mind to ask out beautiful Kaho Serizawa, but the very next day he wakes up to realize that summer vacation is over and he has "day-dropped", or time-slipped to September 1st. Going to school in a state of confusion, the main character finds his grief-stricken classmates who tell him that his girlfriend Kaho has died in a tragic accident on August 31. How did he start dating Kaho when he doesn't remember asking her out? And what were the tragic events that led up to her death? Some Clarifications

Just so you know I have as yet not watched this dvd so I just copied the last review's score. I'm mainly clarifying some details. This DVD is not originally anime play they are the manufacterors. This DVD was probably a PC or console game before it arrived on DVD. DVD video games are a realitivly new thing in Japan and a few games are now making it to the US. They traditionally are story's with still shots and branching plots much like some really early PC games in the US but in Japan they never grew out of them. They intentionally make games that can be played on very old PCs becauese the market for PC games in Japan is very small. The result often is few bells and whisles. You get a manga like experience with voice acting and different ending depending on your choices. This specific game would fall into the shounen catagory which means it is aimed at guys. The quality for these games range from great to bad. Many get made into Anime's because of their popularity in Japan. Those who want to know Phantom has been made into one. Pretty good interactive anime DVD. Some may like it better.

Made by Anime Play, the same people who gave us PHANTOM OF INFERNO. I actually liked that one better, one reason probably being that PHANTOM was an action-oriented story, this one's romance-themed. As a male anime fan I tend to veer more twords action stories. Girls may like this one better, even though the main character is a guy. <p>First, the story: you are Ryoya, a 23-year-old whose mother died when he was a young boy and whose father passed away recently, leaving him to inherit Fantasy Garden, the amusement park his father owned. Now Ryoya and his employees are ready to get the park back into booming bussness. The main focus of the story, however, really isn't on running the amusement park, but rather on character relationships. There are five employees in particular (all female,) whom are at the center of the story, and you can form a serious relationship with anyone of them. There is Nanasa Miduki, who volunteered as a park guide, but who for some reason seems painfully shy around Ryoya. Chikane Tateno, a brash, outspoken girl and friend to Nanasa. Fuka Kiyozumi, co-manager of the park and a hard, dedicated worker. Natsuki Kirisiro, childhood friend of Ryoya, who has a childlike personality and is rather clumsy. Then there is Chihaya Nonohara, another childhood friend of Ryoya and Natsuki, she is the daughter of a hospidal director. She was studying to become a doctor herself but took time off of college to work at the park. (She's the girl who appears on the DVD cover in the green dress holding the balloon.) Anyway, things seem to be going fine at first, until Ryoya, who hasn't been sick since he was very young, suddenly starts getting dizziness, migrane headaches and nausia and passes out. A check up at the hospidal at first reveals nothing abnormal, but then the symptoms continue and later he learns that he has a life-threatening illness and the chances of saving him are slim...<p>Some complaints I had with P.O.I. was that the animation was mostly still images and the only language was Japanese, with subtitles. This one, unfortunately, is the same way. Someone please tell these guys that moving animation is more interesting to watch than still images, and that a good portion of us American anime fans like being able to watch anime in English. <p>Other complaints: in this DVD, unlike P.O.I, you never actually here the main character's voice, you only see what he says in subtitles whenever he "speaks". Also, P.O.I. was much less linear than this disk. The story of P.O.I. followed one course for about the first third of the way, up until the main character (who is an amnesiac,) gets his memory back, then the story can go in wildly different directions. This one pretty much follows one storyline, the only real varient being which girl you end up with, or if you blow it and don't end up with anyone. Addmitedly, there's one subplot you can witness, if you go out with one particular lady, where you find out about a secret about a little girl who hangs out at the park. This side story is fun to watch, but it dosen't seem to really add anything to the main story. And, perhaps in relation to the linearness of this story, there are fewer choices to make. In P.O.I. the fewest number of desisions you'd have to make if playing through one story from begininng to end were 8. Here the number of choices you'll have to make in any one story range from 1 to 3.<p>I'm hoping I don't discourage anyone from buying this. The character designs are quite cute, the voice acting (for all the characters besides Ryoya,) is great and I fell in love with each of the characters. Funniest anime of all time?

Study study study study! Study this DVD from front to back, you won't regret it!<br>There is a good reason why Golden Boy has a solid 5 star rating - this cartoon is really THAT FUNNY! Kintaro Oe is a champ! Is he an wandering idiot or is he an actual genius on a mission? Whatever he is the women sure do love him. And we are talking about some hot hot HOT women! Golden Boy is loaded with some of the most hilarious scenes ever seen in cartoon but the standout epsode has got to with the politician's daughter. I almost cried from laughing so hard watching that ep. over and over again! absolute must see

This is some of the funniest anime I have ever seen and I have seen more than my fair share. Any heterosexual red blooded male who likes anime will love this series. The innuendo and suggestive scenes are woven into the story in a perfectly hilarious fashion.<br>The artwork is very true to the manga form, and the emotional expressions of the characters are a joy to watch. <p>The only downside to this series is that there are only 6 of them. However, on the positive side, since there are only 6 episodes it's easy to watch them all in one or two sittings. The cool thing is the last episode ties in to all of the previous ones, and brings the story to a full circle but still leaving it open ended for our main character to continue on into new adventures.630472923551A1BCQD9UEA1FN212003-09-07

Absolutely one of the most hilarious animes I have ever seen. One could compare it to a Excel Saga with more plot. I can watch it about once every week, which I can't with most episode animes. Save you time and money. You can put $25 to a better use, video is cheep. Do not get me wrong, I am not saying it is inde so it is cheep, I am saying the when I sell out 25 freacking dollars I want a cood tape. Where did they come p with the PG-13? an amazing video!

I'd read a lot about D.FILM - they run a traveling digital film festival that is shown all over the world and were chosen to do the first ever digital film showcase at Cannes last year. Unfortunately I don't live in a city on their schedule so I was glad to hear they were releasing a video with the best films from their festival.<p>The tape is about 60 minutes in length and has about 15? short films, all them created with a computer, digital camera, or some other kind of new technology. The idea is that technology is democratizing filmmaking, by making the process much cheaper and easier, and letting a lot of people outside of the traditional film industry make film. Another great interactive anime DVD.

This is the third DVD released by AnimePlay in the U.S. Of these three, Phantom Of Inferno would be my standing favorite, this one comes second, and Amusement Park would be last. <p>Anyway, the story: The main character is Haruki Tojo, high school student who lives in a dorm by himself and holds a part-time job at a resteraunt. He has been electected Chairman Of Conduct, and he is a black belt in martial arts. He has been nicknamed "Devil Chairman" because of a rumor that he ruthlessly smashes anyone who gets out of line. (A rumor that is completly false, by the way.) He has an unfortunate tendancy to fall asleep in class, and he is best friends with Seiji Anayama, Student Body President. <p>One day Haruki meets a girl his age who seems to know him and says she's been waiting a long time for their reunion. However, Haruki has forgotten all about it and says he doesn't know her. This upsets the girl greatly and she smacks him and leaves. A few days later Haruki is still thinking and dreaming about his strange encounter when they get a new transfer student, a boy named Mao Hiragi. Tension builds between Haruki and Mao immeadietly. Haruki was talking to Seiji when Mao was introduced to the class and Mao has to remind Haruki who he is, and when Mao hears about Haruki's encounter with the girl he calls Haruki a wuss and says it's a joke that he should be called the Devil Chairman. <p>Later when Haruki gives his report on class conduct to the principal he is told that he should try to get along with and watch out for Mao. The principal gives Haruki a cheesecake and tells him to give it to Mao. Haruki returns to his dorm and makes an unpleasent discovery: He and Mao are now roomates! Mao also seems to have a strange thing about not wanting to be seen changing and instists on putting a curtain up between their beds. However, he becomes ecstatic after reciveing the cheese cake and eats it all, raveing about it as he does. Mao, mean while, is hiding a secret: he is really Maho, the girl who smacked Haruki, disguised as a boy! (She's also the character who appears on the DVD cover.) Maho lost a bet to her older sister, Michiru, a professional actress who's come back from an extended trip to America, on whether Haruki would remember her or not, and so now Maho must attend school as a boy. However, Maho plots to get revenge on Haruki for forgetting her. The next day while Haruki is at martial arts gym, Maho shows up, this time dressed as a girl and whearing a long-haired wig. She acts really friendly to Haruki, giving him a towel and iced tea. She tells him she knows he's Haruki, but when he asks her for her name she just tells him,"Try to remeber." Maho's plan is to get Haruki to fall in love with her, then refuse any of his advances, thus leaving him heart-broken. <p>Then there's another sub-plot going on. Seiji's younger sister Isami is a member of the drama club. She is anxious about the upcoming play, and she takes out her stress by berating the younger members of the club, telling them they aren't doing a good job. This causes friction within the club, and even though Haruki isn't a member, Seiji asks him to try to solve the problems of the drama club. Isami asks Haruki to come and watch their rehearsals. <p>In a conventional story, Haruki would learn Mao's secret and they both would end up falling in love together, while also fixing the problems of the drama club. However, these are only some of the possible endings you can get. Depending on the choices you make, the whole plot of Maho's revenge can simply be forgotten and Haruki may never learn the truth about his new roomate, he may or may not get involved in the drama club's affairs, and he can end up with any one of a number of girls. (There's also one bad ending where you don't end up with anyone and you're friends are upset with you.) You could end up with Maho as your girlfriend, or Isami, or Maho's older sister Michiru, or Ayano Kazakiri, school nurse and daughter of the principal, or the accident-prone young waitress (whose name you may or may not learn) at the resteraunt that you meet when showing Mao around town. There are lots of different ways the story could turn out depending on the desicions you make. <p>A nice, fun DVD with cute characters, nice voice preformances, lots of funny moments and interesting plot developments.
