Inside the world of Moto GP

Moto GP is a world lesser known to most Americans - the exception of course are American motorcycle racing fans. In Europe, especially Italy and Spain, Moto GP is wildly popular. This is true for Japan as well. What I like about the video is the objective almost analytical insight it provides into the cloistered and exotic world of 28 superior riders - the world's best - where speeds on the track are routinely over 200 mph. <br /> <br />The latest release includes interviews with the sport's former champions including Barry Sheene, Mick Doohan, Wayne Rainey and Kevin Schwantz as well as current champions. The interviews help you to understand the fierce competitive nature of the pilots and also the vast sums of money to finance the sport. I found the interviews fascinating as it gives you the human side of the sport (80% rider & 20% machine), a chance to compare the rider's very different personalities and their view of the sport as a whole. Barry Sheene, for example, liked " the crumpet." <br /> <br />I enjoy competitive motorsport and I found that the video is one I can watch again and again and still learn something new and interesting about Moto GP each time I watch it. Non-race fans will enjoy it too although obviously not to the same extent as enthusiasts. Faster, if you want to understanding racing

Hands down, the best documentary I've ever seen (regardless of subject) is Mark Neale's "Faster." The subtitle is "Two wheels. 200MPH. Every man for himself." That pretty much tells the story of what this movie's subject matter might be. However, the real story is the people who ride, maintain, and write about these machines and riders. <br /> <br />Neale incorporates the current war on wheels between kid-phenom Valentino Rossi and his near enemy, rival, Max Biaggi, as a vehicle for examining how vicious and unreal the battle at 200mph can be when it's done at a world class level. 1. Cage Match <br />-Hunter Hearst Helmsley with Chyna vs. Mankind <br /> <br />Great Opener. This match becomes a classic, and is best known for Mankind's Elbow Drop from the top of the cage. Mankind Wins this Steel Cage Classic! 9/10 Stars <br /> <br />2. Goldust with Marleena (Terri Runnels) vs. Brian Pillman <br /> (The loser has to wear a dress on Monday Night RAW) <br /> <br />Good Match. It's a good match to watch just to see the late great Brian Pillman. 8/10 Stars <br /> <br />3. Goddwinns vs. The Legion of Doom (L.O.D.) <br /> <br />Another good match. 8/10 Stars <br /> <br />4. European Championship <br />-British Bulldog (Champion) vs. Ken Shamrock <br /> (The loser has to eat dog food) <br /> <br />An excellent technical wrestling contest. At the time, WWF fans were not used to Shamrock's UFC style of wrestling. In the end, Shamrock loses control and gets himself disqualified. 9/10 Stars <br /> <br />5. 8-Man Tag Warfare <br />-Los Boricuas vs. Disciples of Apocalypse (D.O.A.) <br /> <br />This is more of a brawl than a match, but it is very entertaining. The Nation of Domination comes down to the ring and cleans house. D.O.A. walks away with the victory. 8/10 Stars <br /> <br />6. Intercontinental Championship <br />-Owen Hart (Champion) vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin <br /> (If Owen wins, Stone Cold must kiss his butt as Owen moons the world-wide audience) <br /> <br />Excellent, absolutely excellent, match. The only thing keeping me from giving this classic a 10 is of the corny ending. But you have to understand the circumstances, Stone Cold broke his neck to the point where he could've died. There was no way they could've ended the match in a way where it would look real. Stone Cold just barely gets a roll-up on Owen to win the title. 9.5/10 Stars <br /> <br />(If you listen closely, you can here Owen Hart chanting "Canada Sucks" to the crowd when he is pointing his finger to the audience, as if he's telling them what to say. He probably was trying to distract the crowd from Stone Cold's injury) <br /> <br />7. WWF Championship <br />-Undertaker (Champion) vs. Bret Hart (With Shawn Michaels as the Special Guest Referee) <br /> (If Bret Hart does not win the Championship, neither him nor Shawn Michaels can wrestle on American soil ever again) <br /> <br />Awesome Main Event. My favorite SummerSlam Main Event EVER!!! This is a very long and technical wrestling match-up, just the way it should be. My favorite part of the match has to be the ending. Bret Hart goes for a pin only for 'Taker to kick-out. Bret gets mad and goes for a chair. Shawn Michaels takes it away from Bret, only to have Bret spit in his face. Michaels takes a swing with the chair, Bret ducks, and Undertaker gets hit with the chair, who was behind Bret. Bret goes for a pin cover, and Shawn, knowing the stipulations, does not want to lose the right to wrestle in America. So he counts the 1-2-3 for Bret, making him the 5-Time Champion! Best AT film out

Hands down, this is the best AT film out. I own 5 other AT videos (which are all good because they are all on the AT), but TREK gets watched by far the most. Love the scenery, music and ongoing insights as the 4 horsemen push ever north to Katahdin. A memorable movie

I've been wanting to see Trek for a while now, but had some trepidation since my own movie, 2000 Miles to Maine is also a documentary about the Appalachian Trail. I finally watched it this past week and I really enjoyed this movie. The four Horsemen may seem like typical twenty somethings just out to prove something, but quickly we come to appreciate their camaraderie, humor, and introspective development. These guys really do change physically and emotionally through the course of their journey. As someone pointed out in an AT forum, much of 2000 Miles to Maine is like meeting many people and chewing the fat at a shelter while Trek focuses on four guys as they struggle from state to state. I think it is too bad that some have used these reviews to slam others efforts as both movies are truly heartfelt examinations of the trail. TREK made my day - and my hike!

Even if you are NOT a hiker, this video was a blast to watch! I hadn't been hiking before, and after watching this video I went online and subscribed to all of the AT sites I could to glean more information. I've been out on several week long section hikes, and made it a point to try to visit some of the places in this video - that was the really cool part - I actually could SEE the places that were in the video, and it brought me thoughts about what these guys must have went through to not only HIKE this whole trail - but how they managed to carry the equipment to shoot it! I'm heading out for a month long section hike this summer, no way I would've ever considered it if I hadn't seen these guys in action! I've since watched some of the other titles out there, and was kinda surprised that it looked like just a bunch of partying losers who hiked.....most of the characters I've met up with so far who are thru hikers are some of the best people around - wish I couldv'e hiked with the Four Horsemen....maybe someday if they ever go again, I want to be along for the ride! This the the best AT video I have ever seen! Well Done!

What a great video! I have such a craving for videos on the AT, I've gotten my hands on every other availabe title I could find - but the quality of TREK put every other attempt at a documentary to shame...... and if you are even considering hiking the trail - you want to check out this DVD. The guys that created it were tons of fun to watch, and really gave a feel for what it's like to be out there hiking...it's definately not all fun and games! I was disappointed to see that another reviewer used their review to cheaply advertise someone else's DVD - cheap shot - TREK by far was the most realistic, day to day story reflecting what it is actually like out there. The camera angles kept my interest, and by the time the movie was done, I felt like I knew these hikers personally. A well developed story took place, and I couldn't wait to see what happened next! Super photography highlighted the adventure, and some very interesting "challenges" spiced it up quite a bit! One disappointment was that it was not long enough, I really wanted to see more when it was finished. As a hiker, there are many rough days, and lots of complaining happens - it comes with the territory of hiking a trail over 2,000 miles long, through whatever weather comes your way, this documentary help me to realize that planning a hike this long takes time and perserverance, and is truly rewarding in the end. TREK inspired me to do a long hike last year, and I'm considering a Thru hike in 2006.......I would not even have comtemplated the possiblity if I hadn't seen this first. Not the spirit of the Appalachian Trail

I just finished a Thru-hike of the AT in October. And was excited to see this DVD for nestalgia. And I was very disapointed with it. This movie captures a very small percent of people that are on the trail. During the video they are constantly bragging about how many miles they hike day to day, and are constantly complaining about the trail. Its almost as if they have something to prove. and this video is an ego boost. I HIGHLY reccomend the other A.T. Documentary called "2000 Miles To Maine." it captures trail life and different people and represents the trail in a much more positive aspect. If you are seriously interested in hiking the trail or getting information, or just curious about trail life, save your time and money, dont buy this video. Not a movie; it's an advertisement

Summary:<br>Well, it's kind of hard to summarize this DVD because it isn't predominantly a movie, even though there is a ridiculously stupid movie within the action clips. So, I'll summarize the majority of the footage then I'll summarize the movie. <p>The footage is made up almost entirely of what appear to be stock shots of extreme sports, including: snowboarding, skiing, BMX, surfing, and motorcross. One athlete from each sport is highlighted (sometimes there are more, but they are pretty inconsistent on this) who then gives a spread out interview intermixed with scenes of them doing what they do.<p>The movie is a silly short about two skaters who pay a security guard to look the other way while they skate on a college campus. Then when his boss returns the guard and his boss chase the skaters until they end up running them over in their car, killing them, then burying them. <p>My Comments:<br>I'm going to reverse the order for my comments about the DVD. <p>The movie... The short is about the dumbest thing I've ever watched. There are a total of four characters - two skaters and two guards. The skaters say a total of roughly 10 words, all while they are pooling their money to bribe the guard. The rest of the movie they don't say anything, they just skate, and skate, and skate. The guards, on the other hand, can't seem to keep their mouths shut - which works against the movie, sadly, because they sound like two potheads. It's rather obvious that in real life they are probably best friends with skaters and despise security guards. The plot, of course, makes no sense because security guards don't sit at checkpoints on campuses and the majority of the skating is actually just around the city where the movie is filmed instead of on the campus. The plot was just set up for them to have an excuse to film the two skaters. Then, when the skaters are 'killed', it's blatantly obvious that they are mixing footage of dummies with footage of the real skaters - way low budget stuff here. Of course, maybe that was their intent, but it was still just plain silly. In short, the movie portion of this DVD is an absolute waste of film and DVD space. But despite it's problems, it really wasn't that much worse than the rest of the DVD because it was at least coherent and trying to tell a story, despite the horrible acting and plot.<p>The footage and interviews... This is really where I started to have a major problem with this DVD. Even though there is a director for the DVD, Tamra Davis, I got the impression that most of the footage was likely shot by someone else and she just got her hands on it after the fact then edited it together. So, despite some of the footage being pretty good, I don't think the producers of this DVD deserve any of that credit because I'm pretty sure they didn't do most of the filming.<p>As for the content, as I noted above, this is not a movie - there is no story here. This is really just an advertising gimmick for extreme sports. There are a bunch of shots of people doing cool things with the occasional wreck. The extent of the story is the brief interludes of some of the athletes telling about their lives, but the snippets are short and lost in the jumble of cuts from the other athletes and their footage. <p>This leads me to perhaps my biggest problem with this DVD - was there supposed to be an order to it? The interviews and footage don't follow any particular pattern. They start with one person, jump to two or three others, return to the first, then leave that person for 20 or 30 minutes before returning to them. It's almost as if the director and editor just said, "Well, we have this many video clips, let's put them into a randomizer and see what comes out." Et voila, you have Keep Your Eyes Open. This is why I think I ended up concluding that the DVD was really just an advertisement because there was no other way to interpret what took place. Also, keep in mind that interspersed with the footage and interviews are scenes from the actual movie. <p>Overall, this DVD was more frustrating and annoying than interesting. I never really got anything from it other than watching some cool tricks and feeling like I was watching a 75 minute advertisement for supporting or participating in extreme sports. I guess I should admit that I found two things interesting - Mat Hoffman nearly killed himself when he was attempting to break his own record for height reached on a BMX bike but eventually succeeded, and Travis Pastrana won the first freestyle motorcycle trick contest at 14. Other than those two randomly interspaced interesting tidbits, I was completely bored by this DVD. If you're interested in paying for someone to advertise to you, go ahead and buy it.
