It is a good mix of music from the "Neverland" CD, showing where the band was ten years after their prime, along with the hits from the eighties. The music alone, for the most part, is exactly what I was hoping to hear.<p>This is the same song selection that has been repackaged several times in recent years. If you can find this CD in any packaging, buy it. The guitar work is stellar, and vocally the band can still harmonize better than most bands in their genre.<p>The high points on this CD include Jeff's guitar solo, most of the hits we know and love from the eighties are included, and great guitar solos within the songs we know and love.<p>Here are the weak points. The packaging -- skimpy liner notes and a photo of the band that is older than my kids! Considering this concert was recorded in 1997, yellow spandex on the front cover can not possibly help in the effort of selling this CD. Since the music, not the packaging, makes it or breaks it for me, here is where the music slips a bit. First, Brad's guitar solo is little more than noise. He has always delivered monster licks. When it comes to melodic solos and whammy bar magic/funkiness, very few guitarists can touch this guy. His solos within the context of the band's songs are dead on perfect; however, his solo track leaves a lot to be desired. Second, the keyboards are buried on a few tracks. When a band has a keyboard player as talented as Fitz, he shouldn't be buried. There is enough space across the stereophonic spectrum to let all players be heard.<p>Regardless, the high points far outshine the low ones. It's soppy lovey-dovey stuff, yet i can't think of anything better placed as lyrics. 'Girls are better than boys' is a slade-esque stomp along and contains some classic lyrics, 'They got the sweetest feet and never [pee] on the seat of the toilet' i mean who else could get away with lyrics like that? lol<br>The album never lets up from 'Brain Sugar' to Gingers Question Song 'What Ever Happened To All The Rock N Roll Girls'. The album ends in an energetic explosion of stadium rock. I can't rate this album enough, it's a modern classic that will no doubt be missed by 99.9% of the world. <br>Buy It Buy It Buy It, if you are poor and all you own is a CD player and Batteries Go and steal it ... ;). Whatever you do just get hold of it. The result is incredible and almost indescribable. How do you describe this record, besides that it really kicks? There is a little bit of everything in there, from the fun, poppy hard rock songs like "Boys Are Better than Girls", not unlike something you'd expect Eve 6 or Marvelous 3 to play, to poppy catchy tunes like "Sonic Shake". There are pipe hittin' songs in here, too, like "I wanna Be New" and "Too Many Hippies (In the Garden Of Love)". even ballads, such as "To Love Somebody". The range of music included in this disc is amazing and the songwriting is as good as any. The whole "rock star" attitude really comes through, and it contains the showmanship and hype of KISS, Cheap Trick and Def Leppard. Which is not to say that it is a ripoff at all. Each riff is unique and resembles nothing like you've ever heard before. The whole disc was written and produced by Ginger himself, with a little bit of help. But the album really displays his skills as a producer to the max. You can listen to this album and not be sure of exactly which era it was from. Simply the best rock record of the year, and also one of the better of the past decade. The "inner movie" is something like this: Through a computer glitch, party guy Rufus Chang (Willie Ames) has to attend an uptight eastern prep school. His roommate is Edwin Billington III (Scott Baio), proper son of Senator Billington (Lorenzo Lamas). Rufus (Ames) quickly loosens things up! He and Edwin (Baio) sneak out the window and hit the D.C. nightlife, to the sound of Nightranger's "Eddie's Comin' out Tonight!" Rufus, *claiming* to actually be Edwin (stay with me here!), meets Claire (Phoebe Cates), daughter of the President. When she won't "go all the way" that night, Rufus does some heavy soul searching... to "Sister Christian!" (He's walking by the Lincoln monument, jacket over shoulder and head down).... <p>Later that night, Rufus (Ames)and Claire (Cates) are in their respective beds, each remembering the moments from earlier that night in collage style... accompanied by, you guessed it - "When You Close Your Eyes!!".... Well, eventually Claire (Cates) finds out who Rufus *really* is, and decides she loves him anyway... as she's riding a horse on the beach, topless. Fill it with other seldom heard or even better, previously unreleased stuff. All it can do in the end is help you. From there it's only a short journey to "Hey, this is the last Night Ranger cd I need to complete my collection." Trust me. I was never a huge fan of the band in their heyday, but they opened for Pat Benatar in Dayton, Ohio last year and my wife was dying to see her. I wasn't expecting much out of Night Ranger, but halfway through the set I suddenly realized how many of the songs I was singing along with, and how incredibly good they were. They played like men on a mission for the 70 minutes they were allowed, and at the end of the night I cheesed my wife off by telling her that Night Ranger blew Pat Benatar off the stage. (Sorry, babe. Sometimes the truth stings a little.) My point? In a nutshell, catch this band live and stay away from bad compilations. It was more than just a pretty face. <p>I bought the 20th Century Masters compilation because its sound quality is remastered and superior to the original compilation. But after buying it, I realized that "Rumours" was mysteriously left off. This is inexcusable considering both the unused space left on the disc, and the inclusion of the cookie cutter 80's song "I Did It For Love." To remove a song that is highly creative and unique to include a song that is highly typical and draped in 80's bland taints this collection. <p>One day the recording industry will start offering true "greatest" hits packages so people won't have to download the songs needed to fill in the gaps left on the CD's they buy!B00004UAPX43A3MOF5KF93Q6WE32003-09-11A GOOD Twentieth Century Masters CD!? Is the world ending?With all the hair rock bands of the eighties, it's only natural that a few became lost in the crowd created by all of them. These days, we only remember the wildly popular bands of the genre (Poison, Motley Crue, etc.), but these aren't necessarily the best bands. One of the best was the bay area rockers known as Night Ranger. It's a shame this band never got the proper credit, because their music is nothing short of excellent! Read on for my review of this hits compilation.<p>PROS:<br>-The only song the average person would know by Night Ranger is Sister Christian, so there's no way they could've left that off of here. Minor hits like Don't Tell Me You Love Me and When You Close Your Eyes are also here. And then, there are the underrated gems that never get radio play - Sentimental Street and You Can Still Rock In America. But the best song of all is the highly underrated Sing Me Away. Why this song never became a hit is beyond me. There's something for everyone here.<br>-This compilation has some songs that the offical hits compilation is missing.<p>CONS:<br>-This CD doesn't even come close to filling the eighty minute time limit that can fit onto a single CD. Any hits CD costing $9.99 or more should always fill the entire time limit.<br>-There aren't as many songs here as there are on the official hits compilation.<p>OVERALL:<br>Night Ranger is severely underrated, and more people need to discover the excellence that is their music. AWESOME!With a mixture of Zack de la Rocha's sound from Rage Against the Machine and an incredible singing ability, this band from Tallahassee, Florida knows how to rock the stage. I had never heard of this band until last night when they were at a concert in Knoxville, TN with DoubleDrive and Ra and they absolutly stole the show!!! This band really knows how to rock the stage! They got the crowd more involved than any band i've seen before. After the show i got to talk to the lead singer and drummer for a while and the guys are just really down to earth. If there was one cd i could recommend for someone to buy out of the 200 cd collection i have it would be Presence's "Rise" because of it's awesome style, the band member's incredible talent,and their ability to leave you singing their lyrics for hours and hours.
