The Cupid's Cup contest provides Maryland start-up companies with a mechanism to compete for funding. The company that captured the imaginations of Plank and the other judges was Social Growth Technologies. Co-founder Paul Capriolo, a 2006 University of Maryland alumnus, is on his third start-up with Social Growth. He's generating sales and striking deals with major Facebook application developers. Professor Emeritus Jack Minker will give a keynote lecture at the 2010 Nonmonotonic Research Workshop (NMR10) in Toronto, Canada on May 14, 2010. The lecture is in honor of the 30th anniversary of the late Raymond Reiter's 1980 paper, "A Logic for Default Reasoning". Reiter was a Principal Founder of the field of Nonmonotonic Reasoning. Teams representing the University of Maryland, Georgia Institute of Technology, Stanford University, MIT, and Harvard were selected from two dozen semifinalists competing to win the $200,000 MIT Clean Energy Prize -- a national annual competition for the best clean energy business venture. Professor Emeritus Jack Minker has been invited to present a lecture in honor of Raymond Reiter at the 2010 International Conference on Nonmonotonic Reasoning in Toronto, Canada, in mid-May 2010. The lecture is historical in nature, but is oriented towards those familiar with nonmonotonic reasoning, a subfield of artificial intelligence.
