Course Description

This course is an introduction to the broad field of computer, network, and information security. We will cover both computer security (including such topics as security policies, access control, viruses, etc.) and network security (such as protocols for maintaining confidentiality of email or for secure web transactions), along with some relevant background in basic cryptography.

40% Labs
20% Midterm 1

Optional homework is available. Please see Piazza for the link. This will not count towards your grades, but will be at the same level as Mid-term 1.

Homework/Lab Submission Policy

No late submission will be accepted. This will be enforced strictly.
We will use the SEED labs for homeworks.

Optional Textbook

Network Security: Private Communication in a Public World - (2nd Edition), by Charlie Kaufman, Radia Perlman and Mike Speciner (May 2, 2002).
