patriot day i went for the national day parade thing just a few hours ago, and given that this is my first time in such a massive gathering, and this is the first time i've come so close to speakers that boom so loud (the emcees hardly had the courtesy to at least speak at a normal volume, instead of screaming), and this is the first time i've seen fireworks literally cracking and flowering over my head.
it was beautiful. each time some of those shot high into the sky, it boomed so loud the ground shook, and for a moment it felt everything was unsteady, surreal, but mortally noisy. (human civilisation has a tendency to be noisy, for the uninitiated - i always like to make sure aliens know what is going on. ) right now my ears are sort of ringing in pain (despite the fact that i covered my ears through the noisiest parts of the parade - which probably spans to about a third of the time).
i have no idea how kenn + jeremy managed to get through the entire ordeal with perfect hearing faculties, but i suspect that they are either immune to this or they are deaf. or they will be in due time, but it's not as if i am desperate for that to happen. or maybe my ears are soft, watery and... fragile. i wrote only one sms to a fan of my blog with much difficulty; i hope - um - you pay your taxes promptly. okay bye.
