Plot: "Cops" meets X-Men starring future cop mutant Bishop. Review: I've always dug Bishop, and I'm happy to see a gimmick for him that will actually work. This issue, however, stars Ismael, the human who gets assigned to work with Bishop as they go through the streets of District X, a mutant ghetto in Manhattan. Ismael is originally paired with your standard minority hating cop Gus, who isn't exactly thrilled with working in District X, and considers it a place of trash and mutant excrement.
Ismael seems a bit more compassionate, albeit, to a fault, when he helps cover up when his partner Gus screws up a domestic abuse call. David Hine and David Yardin set an effective pace and style in the book, saving the superhero money shot for the last page. This first issue has really set my expectations high for this book, and I can't wait to see if someone is actually able to make Bishop cool again. Rating: B+
