Heaven is a half pipe Today is my last day of work before the nice long weekend, and to top it off I am leaving work at 1:30pm cause I have an appointment.....oh ya.....
This weekend, marking the end of summer always makes me nostalgic for the summers from the past. I usually sit on the porch late monday night as the sun begins to set and just soak up the last few minutes of summer. It usually gets really cold the following day and lasts late into the next week. Sometime around the 15th we'll get a week of Indian Summer, and we'll have BBQ's, head to the cottage, wash our cars and cruise around town with the windows down and the music blarring. Everyone is in better spirits from the heat. They laugh again, their back in shorts, tank tops and flip flops. They let you pass ahead of you on the freeway with a smile and wave back at you when you thank them. Something about the heat and sun in mid to late septmeber that reminds people that we don't have to rush, we don't have to be mean and that we can be ourseleves. But come October, when the sun starts to set at 7:30 and then 5:30 sometime in November, people become bitter and cynical and hate everything. Christmas time usually brings spirts back up, but not always. The mall parking lots are packed and the stores are filled with frantic shoppers. We all forget what it was like to be a kid and we all forget how great things were in the summer.
I think remembering only brings more pain. I think being nostalgic isn't for everyone. I think pushing the past far out of their heads is a better pass time. Not for me. Without the past, without my memories, I would be bitter and cynical. I would hate the world everyday of the week. It's too bad people don't embrace this long weekend more. It's too bad not everyone sits on the porch or in a car and just listens to music watch the sunset and just thank God that they had an amazing past.
For this summer to will be in the past and soon forgotten and we will begin the grumpy and nasty state of mind that can only be found in the Fall. What are you doing this long weekend? And an extended HAPPY BIRTHDAY Kat this weekend. I won't be here tomorrow, so here it is today....
