Ok I have a lot of things that I want to tackle tonight so bear with me as while I am in the hospital I have nothing much else to do. The first thing that I want to discuss and give my opinion on is this new law (well it is a law that has been on the books and been available for use since 1967. It is only for Ohio but I can imagine other states will be watching to see how it works out. News Story Well in Ohio some judges are going to start using this. If you didn't read the article it is a special license plate for people convicted of DUI. Now this special tag is different from all the other tags in that it is yellow with red lettering.
Now from a completely common sense view I see that "hey this might be good and might cut down on accidents or DUI's"...but then I get into my civil libertarian mode and I can see that there is a real problem with this rational. Ok lemme just state a few things. Most DUI drivers probably have done it more than once and really don't see much of a problem with it all. Even when caught these people continue to do it inspite of the law. Now I can honestly say that I have done it a few times but out of those few times there was only once that I was truly a menace and should not have done it...and looking back I would not have done it. Actually happened recently when I was living in Indiana and my roommates and I were at a house party and I was the only one that was barely standing at the end of the evening. Fortunately we only had to go a few blocks and it was very late at night and I have always been a good driver...so we made it without incident.
I will say I will never do that again because when I got back to the apartment I got out of the car and screamed "I was way to drunk for that!!! I will never ever do that again"...then I profusely thanked the gods above because I really should not have done that. Ok with that little story out of the way I will go back to this law. It gives the judge the power to convict DUI people to have this special license plate.
Again not wholely unreasonable...but when you consider that if you are someone with one of those tags on you will attract attention not just from your fellow motorists (which hey it is supposed to warn them that you have DUI's in your past) but it tips off police agencies. Ok so what it tips off the police? Well think of it this way. Police when they pull you over and want to search your vehicle they have to have probable cause to carry out the search. With this tag not only would the vehicle garner additional attention from law enforcement but also set up automatic probable cause for police to just search your vehicle. Alarmest am I? Yes on this definitely. I think that in reality you could make a good constitutional case against this law using privacy rights and 5th ammendment rights. One is privacy and if you have this tag you stick out like a sore thumb and people know your private problems...but the worse violation is against the Fifth Amemdment. Basically it says that you have the right to refuse to incriminate yourself and cannot be compelled to. This tag could be seen (from my eyes) that you have just tossed that sucker out the window. Having the tag on the back automatically prejudices any officer who pulls you over to go through a whole batery of tests (sobriety mainly) and then the officer would want to search your vehicle which because of your tag they have probable cause so you can't stop them.
Here is the perfect storm example of this. John Doe got a DUI conviction and still has his license but has the new plates. John Doe also runs drugs from Cincinnatti to Columbus. You are cruising along and not breaking any apparent laws. You aren't speeding nor driving irratically but you get pulled over regardless because of your tag.
Now they run the tests and find nothing but continue to search the car "because you never know"...and even if you were to say "don't search my car" they can say not only from that statement but also because of the tag that they have probable cause to do it. Of course they tear the car apart and find the twenty pounds of pot. That is the scenaro I see.
To me that is a great problem. Another thing is more dissendence in the Rank and File Israeli armed services. More troop refuse party lines. Basically these guys are the uber elite fighters (more secretive than SEALS, Green Berrets, SAS...and likely better trained) of the Israeli Defense Force. The IDF has had some problems as just recently 27 pilots have decided against flying these assasination mission which are illegal under international law.
So this uber force has said no we aren't going to continue to kill palestinians and deprive them of basic rights. This is not only a blow to the extreme right wingers in Israel but also here. America has to come to grips with how we are going to deal with our child over there. Now it is not anti-semetic to talk critically of Israel's issues as long as you acknowledge their right to a state. While I have different feelings on that (mostly because they are essentially setting up a racist gov. that doesn't want anyone outside of their ethnic background to be a part of...that is a whole 'nother can of worms) I do recognize they are indeed a state and are soveriegn. They have the right to exist is as plainly as I can put it. However to blindly support Israel is just plane dumb. It is like saying to your kid "its ok you killed you cousin, and we won't mind if it happens again". What has been going on over there has been a systematic attempt from both side to wipe each other off the planet. That is the key...both sides. You cannot deny that the Palestinians have done some horrible things that are simply barbaric, the same goes for the Israeli's as they have done horrible things to their brothers.
So why do we as Americans blindly support Israel and all its policies when clearly the support for those policies is surely waining in their own nation? I can't give you an answer outside of that we here in the states are afraid to question it for fear of having the Anti-Defimation League crawl all over anyone who talks out of turn.
They did it recently to Dean on the mere suggestion that we may want to take a more even handed approach to Israel/Palestine. Today on my way down to the hospital I stopped to get a pepsi and some three musketeer bars at sheetz in our little burb. Low and behold I saw a H2 there. If I had been in better shape I would have confronted the owner and asked him how he felt about the 400+ lives that have been lost so he can run his vehicle.
I also wanted to ask him if he was compensating for a small penis. What is sickening is all the commercials on tv for them lately. I think what is happening is that people are getting in there and looking at them and then they are told of the Tax Credit for those vehicles if they register them under a business. If a person buys a big SUV over a certain weight there is a tax credit that you can get if you register it under your business or phoney business (its not hard to "start" a business). You can actually recieve the total cost of an H2 back in one year as a tax credit...basically the Government pays you to buy the vehicle.
That really pissed me off. I tried to get my camera out so I could get a picture of me flipping the H2 off and the owner as well. I believe this guy lives in Springdale and I may track him down and tell him what I think of his hummer and maybe insult the size of his obviously small dick. Oh I have more don't you worry...I have a lot to say about the Mad Cow thing and many other issues and I will get to them over the next few days...you just wait. I guess I have been waiting for the right time to get to it all... Peace...and if you see people driving a H2 get a picture of you flipping them off and lemme know and I will give you a site that you can have it posted on. A site dedicated to the hatred of the H2 and its complete lack of anything remotely needed.
