This week has been probably one of the more bizarre weeks in a while. Lets see if we can hit the major points. David Kay the chief US weapons inspector quit his job and has said that we were all wrong in our assumptions on Weapons of Mass Destruction. At the beginning he was convinced that Iraq had massive stockpiles and now he sais there aren't any at all. Cheney still believes in them being there. Bush has thought maybe they weren't there but we still have to give the US weapons inspectors more time (didn't he argue against that when it was the UN?
) before we would know the truth. Cheney may still yet be prosecuted in France in a bribery charge against his company Halliburton. Cheney also has had a good hunting trip with Supreme Court Justice Scalia, who if you recall is hearing the case brought by some groups (Sierra Club for one) to open up who came to the Secret Energy Meetings that Cheney had. Scalia has refused to recuse himself from the case almost assuring whatever the outcome (especially if the court keeps the meetings information closed to the groups) look fishy.
Bush appointed Pickering...the supposed racist Judge from MS (which he isn't...but nonetheless shouldn't be appointed any higher because he holds views that are for me to far to the right). He backdoor appointed him and now the Dems have to figure out what to do. The Democratic ticket is all screwed up. Dean has had some shakeups in his camp. First Trippi is gone...Trippi the main man behind the orginization of the Internet portion of the Dean Machine. Obviously in the Iowa Caucus we lost pretty badly overall, Gephardt dropped out then because he just wasn't getting the vote. Dean then had his scream...which anybody who has actually enhabited the what many of us refer to as "the real world" (not MTv Style...and condolences to the MTv family over the loss of Bennam or whatever her name is who was one of the creators and producers of "The Real World" series on MTv she died from a a cancer that she has suffered with for many years). You see out in the "real world" there are these things called emotions and even the most rational of us suffer from them.
He was venting his anger, passion, revving up the troops, getting attention, and yes howling...so what? Who cares? At least he is literate unlike Bush and hasn't nearly been taken out by a pretzel eating mishap. Dean went on and lost NH...he came in second to Kerry. He showed very well and really he didn't loose share to Kerry instead Kerry just picked up people that came into the voting process and was able to turn out his base at the poles.
Now Dean looks like he will come in Second or Third in the upcoming Tuesday primaries. Now he had arounr 40 some odd million...or raised that much. Now he is down to 5 million or thereabouts. Most of his staff will have to give up a few weeks pay and he has had to pull all ads from TV for the time being to conserve funds. My only question outside of who he replaced Trippi with is how did they blow through that money so fast? That is probably the biggest shocker right there...The only thing is that he was running ads much earlier than competitors and running ads in states that aren't even close to primary. I understand why he did...really it is marketing 101...but unfortunately marketing 202 is where they teach you how to spend wisely and better target your ads. He is still raising money...so that is good. Dean still has pull with his core...but his core is tiring because we have spent much time (or at least I have spent a great deal explaining the good and bad...trying to be balanced instead of "ra-ra-ra" about him and all) explaining what is going on and trying to put a good spin on things.
It is no secret that the media has it out for Dean. They bash at every opportunity and it is almost sickening to watch Crossfire and watch the left come out to attack him. They have replayed that damn clip to death and never give up the chance to take a cheap shot at him. Kerry has moved into the head slot for campaigning...but if you look behind the scenes you see nothing. Kerry has less Deligates devoted to the primary than Dean (Dean has something like 113 Kerry 98 or so...Dean is still on top).
His policy chest is empty...he took Deans talking points and shamelessly plagarized them and makes himself out to be anti-special interest even though he has recieved the most money out of all the people running in special interest money for senators over the past 15 years...so that is baseless...he can be bought. Kerry looks good...he looks electable. Well he isn't as electable and I will try and tell you why. Look at his voting record over this past three years and pick a random republican senator. Guess what they voted almost the same down the board. So there is no difference between him and the republicans at large. The only reason Kerry is 1 right now is simply because he is a better politician right now.
He has been able to ride a wave but soon that wave will crash. Dean has a problem there too. Roy Neel...the new co-ordinator was a lobbyist. He was Gore's manager as well. However Dean is an outsider and frankly it is bold enough to work...but it is so far out there that it may crash and burn. If this all works the system may well just be changed...and we may well get our government back...I can say one thing though is that even if Dean doesn't win (oh please we need a moderate in the white house not another cowboy) the system will have to change to accomodate us.
They may be able to placate us for a while...but eventually we will win. This particular election cycle is pretty unique because of all the outside Dynamics coming into play this time around. We have all been forced to look at what is going on. While many people see it one way as being great...about 98% of the rest of the world looks at it and sees a mess.
So I think just shear dynamics is going to change things. Ok now this post was rambling and not very well written...and frankly I am ashamed of it...but I had about an hour of a clear head. I am on 50mg of Benadryl every four hours. 40mg Oxyconton every 12 hours 500mg (5/250*2) Percocet every four hours. (10mg effective oxycodone) 2mg Dilaudid every five hours. So I am pretty doped up almost all the time. I love drugs...but damn... The dilaudid isn't the best out there...although it is powerfull...for me it lasts around 2 hours and then the pain is back. The percocets last longer on me...and oxycontin doesn't matter much...it just is longer lasting...you don't get dopey fast off of it.... Well it is late and I need to have them bring me some percocets for these hips and knees....they do hurt...not to mention that my chest hurts from almost constant coughing. That sucks.... Well whenever I get a clear head I will write again I am sure... Peace....
