The Nick and Jessica Variety Hour: A Sign of the Apocalypse? I tuned in to ABC tonight hoping to see Alias, but instead of Jennifer Garner swinging from a helicopter in a bright red wig with a Rambaldi artifact tucked under one arm, I saw Nick and Jessica.
(The "Chicken of the Sea" Jessica and Nick. ) I had seen promos of this show for weeks and thought that it looked like a parody of the Sonny and Cher show from way back in the day (before my time). To be honest, I only caught about 3 minutes of their opening act and it was so obnoxious that I turned it off.
I am hoping that this show is meant to be a clever postmodern parody of a 1960's variety show yanked out of context to create an ironic juxtaposition between the wholesome TV of the past and the sex and violence on TV today (instead of simply a lame vehicle for Jessica and Nick). Note: ABC did air Alias after Nick and Jessica. HAPPY EASTER and a HAPPY BIRTHDAY (April 12) to Dave Letterman (I know, he ain't here)
