I've been doing a little research on my more than likely potential new home known far and wide as Colebrook, New Hampshire.
Now, I'm looking for a smallish city in which to live - something like Kingston, ON from which I recently exited - you know, nice and quite in the Northwest USA, around 100,000 people. so the web-surfing begins: population, that's always a good indicator .
. . .
well urlLink it says here that it has 2,623 people hmmmmm, that seems pretty small.
Apparently it is also one of the few populated areas in New Hampshire that is losing population - this according to the recent US Census - On the plus side, it is right on the border of Quebec and New Hampshire, and Montreal is about two hours away! Cool! I can go visit all my friends in Montreal! Wait, urlLink Howie , you're moving away from Montreal .
. .
that's o.k., but now my list of friends in that city is suddenly halved .
. . .
So basically I'm going to be moving to a really really small town that people are trying to get our of. On the plus side, I'll probably be working so hard at urlLink Eckerd that I'll be content to sleep in on my days off and read a book .
. . .
besides, I am going to save soooo much money from this gig. My meals are paid for 5 days a week and the room that I rent for my days off only costs 40 dollars a month. After all of this is said and done, I stand to be in a good position money-wise for a while if I do this for two years or so.
Also, I don't have to upgrade my wardrobe (from its current status of Thriftstore Student to the abomidable state of Corporate Adult), all I have to do is just buy some new boots and some winter gear and I'm set.
As for cash, It's my goal to save one hundred dollars a month for retirement. Besides finally accepting that I have to start being responsible I can then justify saving two hundred a month so I can take a four month tour of Europe after two years of Eckerd with cash to spare (to use a weird metaphor, I'm like Frosted Mini Wheats: one side gets the 401K savings, the other gets to carouse in Europe). If you couldn't tell, I've put a whole lotta thought in to this thing. Gotta have a plan, gotta have a plan. blargh ajc
