urlLink Bandits Attack Christian Churches in Osaka OSAKA -- Masked bandits raided and robbed two Christian churches in Osaka Prefecture on the weekend, leaving a reverend injured after they hurled acid onto his face, police said.
The 54-year-old reverend from the Hirano Evangelical Church in Osaka's Hirano-ku sustained only minor injuries in the Sunday botched burglary and is expected to make a full recovery.
His church fared a little better, with the robbers leaving empty handed even though they broke a window to get in, but were soon discovered by the man of the cloth who had been alerted by a burglar alarm. A day earlier, the same three bandits forced their way into another Christian church in nearby Sakai, stealing 3,000 yen in cash and a personal computer. Investigators believe the two cases are linked because they were both carried out by a group of three men wearing the same sort of full face masks.
