So which part of this is democracy? The speaker of the Ontario provincial legislature has decided that urlLink the ruling Progressive Conservative party acted in contempt of the legislature by releasing their 2003-2004 budget at an Ontario autoparts manufacturing facility, instead of in the legislature. Was it democracy in action when protest about the budget presentation erupted, and was then ignored by the majority party in power? Was it democracy in action when the legislative procedure showed that the majority party was in contempt of the process?
Will it be democracy in action when the majority party votes in favour of themselves, in order to not be censured by the house? The Ontario PC Party has clealy flouted parlimentary procedure. The speaker (a former PC MPP) has ruled that the party decision, flys in the face of procedure, and is tantamount illegal. Will the majority government censure itself? This may be one for the ethics books.
