ded sent me another recording, this time of one of paulinho da viola's classics on how samba inspiration hits only when you are longing for the one that broke your heart.
very pretty. with pandeiro and all! yesterday i lay by the bassin de la villette. i think i may even have gotten some colour on may face. i also learnt some words for my Grand O. julien is teaching me useful phrases, for exemple, (said in a nasal, old-school french voice like those you hear in black and white films from the 50s), "il faut que tout chaaaange, pour que rien ne chaaaange. " (taken from El Gato Pardo, Visconti, and regularly used in sociology conferences, apparently...). also heard the premi partie de la biographie de michel foucault-LIVE, but i fell asleep around 1966 (it was very detailed).
some retained facts: foucault was born in poitiers, in a family of doctors, and he was urged to become one too, but his true passion was history. in normal-sup, he was considered rather violent and a little nuts, he used to threaten his colleagues with a knife. i noticed a poster for urlLink noites do brasil at the urlLink glaz'art , on friday...with the orquestra do fubthis time, i will be sure to go. i've been itching to dance forrr some time now, it's gotten to the point where i'm dancing alone in my room, like when i was just learning back in rio.
i am now officially on holiday, but unofficially still very busy. though not having class will make a big difference. i wish i hadn't already used up my three-absences quota for all but one of my classes...my fault anyway. i've got an italian exam coming up next tuesday, how i will pass i don't know, i really haven't retained a thing though my pronounciation has improved (very slightly).
laundry too...but my coin collection isn't big enough. i haven't washed any clothes since BEFORE my holiday in new york...which means about a month? starting to get dangerously close to the end of wearable underwear. maybe today is the day...should i try a new laundrette? the one on oberkampf looks friendlier than my regular laverie avenue de la rblique.
