And I do agree that the point of punctuation is 'to remind us to write (and think) clearly. ' But isn't all arcane rules -- the rules were set for a reason. And punctuation does, and will, continue to evolve. Let's not just throw it out the window because no one knows the difference between its and it's. Let's teach them the difference, instead. "
