I was driving down Memorial yesterday when this giant airplane flew so slow right over me, it was very frightening. To add to the sureal moment, a much smaller jet shadowed the giant plane just off the wing. Everyone pulled over to stare, I did as well. The plane circled back around and flew toward downtown, but it really didn't seem like it was flying high enough to fly over the buildings.
It was pretty weird. I called John and asked if he'd seen anything on TV or online, I explained the giant plane and what looked like the astronaut training jet following it. Then, the planes flew over him way out at NASA! We couldn't believe that we'd both seen such a wild sight. John's co-op, who was with him during my frantic call, shot an email to one of his buddies on a tour working on shuttle.
He was able to explain right away that they were testing a new inert fuel system. Anyway, turns out the giant plane was the space shuttle carrier plane, and they were trying to get some pretty pictures on such a nice day of the plane flying by the Houston skyline. A really nice idea, too bad it scared the bejesus out of everyone!
