While living in the same neighborhood as the apparent two-time house thieves can be withstood, finding first a roach, and now fleas in my house has me wanting to sell.
At least the thieves are healthier thanks to our stuff, seeing as they've traded our three bikes for other unrecognizable bikes, presumably via some fence, they bike everywhere now! All day long, I used to see them walking around the neighborhood, but now they zoom by. I hear the whizz of a ten-speed and look up just in time to see another would-be house thief fly by the window. One other time in the four years we've lived here I found a roach. It sparked a terrible cleaning spree that lasted days.
This time, I tried to calm down and focus on the general trend toward simplicity that can only help the cleanliness of the house. Now, I realize giving my cat the de-flea meds when we went out of town (so as to avoid any meds coming into contact with my kids) must have resulted in a flea migration from cat to couch. Shit! How long before they spread to the bedrooms? Are flea bites dangerous? Before we had kids, we had a flea outbreak with our dog, Argos. We used diatomaceous earth then, but that's not exactly good for kids who might inhale the particulates accidentally. The chemical alternatives look even worse. I've never even used bug repellent on the kids, I'm not about to bug bomb my house.
I read years ago that bug bombs are associated with elevated rates of brain cancer in children. I found some candle in water remedy that I'm willing to try, but what if that doesn't work? Like any good Ikea hunk, this couch is slip covered and I'll be washing that post haste, but if that doesn't do it, I think we have to move. Does anyone want to buy a red Ikea hide-away couch?
