urlLink The “F” Family continues to grow! - The Jane Goodall Institute News Center : "Gombe researchers were delighted to see Fanni with a new baby on April 24. Gombe Stream Research Center headman Mzee Hilali Matama reports that the baby is a female. He has suggested the name “Familia,” which means “family” in Swahili. “Fanni is attentive to the new little girl,” writes Gombe videographer Bill Wallauer, “but her youngest son Fundi was trailing along behind Fanni, whimpering as she traveled up the steep slopes of Linda Valley. He is accustomed to getting all the attention and will have to adjust to life with a new baby in the family. Luckily, he has a wonderful friend in his older brother Fudge, and yesterday I sat and watched as Fudge and Fundi had a long play session near Jane's Peak.” The newborn descends from the “F” family line that Jane has written of extensively.
Flo was a popular female and Gombe’s most successful mother at the time, and became well-known to those interested in the goings-on at Gombe. She was even given an obituary in the Sunday Times of London when she died. Her daughter Fifi (Fanni’s mother) had her ninth offspring last year. "
