The Tavis Smiley Show was great this week. They dedicated most stories to the anniversary of the revolution in South Africa that ended apartheid. Among other details it brought to memory was that Dick Cheney advised the South African gov't to jail Nelson Mandela as a terrorist. Here, Smiley interviewed Cornel West, who shared the story of getting kicked out of South Africa for speaking against the Apartheid regime. When history looks back with a little distance, we'll know Cornel West was one of the brilliant minds we shared the planet with in our time. urlLink NPR : Cornel West Commentary: U.S.-South African Relations : "Commentator Cornel West reflects on the United States' relationship with South Africa's former apartheid government.
