Forgetting the blogosphere for just a moment, the Real World is certainly abuzz on the topic of urlLink Barack Obama . I've lost count of how many people asked me, "did you see that speech last night? " At Aidan's school, the parents discussed it as we dropped our kids off. I received several emails from friends. Perhaps most telling, John said several of his NASA colleagues talked to him about it this morning. Since NASA's in the 'burbs, it's pretty conservative. It's so refreshing to see such an interest in the left side of politics. We did see it last night. We TiVo'd it, in fact. The urlLink full text is here . John was immediately won over with admiration and hope for this young, eloquent urlLink soon-to-be Senator .
I was a little more skeptical, having been immediately won over only to have my heart crushed by Howard Dean some three years ago. Obama's too perfect. He's handsome, has a beautiful family, a stellar background (editor of the Harvard Law Review, according to PBS), and speaks with intelligence, passion, and charisma. Watching last night, I half expected part of his face to melt away and reveal a cyborg controlled by Joe Trippy in the wings.
Of course he's got a campaign blog and last night's open thread on the speech required two separate entries to accommodate the comments, 324 and 417 respectively. I'm guessing they're upgrading the server this morning. He's certainly a rising star to watch. And it's refreshing to think there's young talent coming through the ranks of Dems.
