The ninos are asleep in the tent, nap time is lasting luxuriously long today. I’ve already enjoyed an hour’s nap myself and now John is making us cups of tea with the remainder of our quiet time.
He’ll take any excuse to play with our new campstove! This is flexible expectations in action. Our two backpacks are still packed with all our gear for our planned three day, two night backpack, only we access what we need from them by opening the car trunk! Since John and I got so sick this past weekend, we were forced to adjust our plans to car camping. That’s what you call camping when you pull up to your tent site in the car. We found a cute spot against the Rio Hondo in the Hondo Valley near Taos Ski Valley.
From here, we can drive to a number of fun trails or even into town as we did this morning for breakfast at Michael’s Kitchen. I’m very sad that our giant introduction into backpacking with children will be delayed until our next trip, maybe late July?, but I’m pleased we’ve recovered this much considering how very sick we were. I wish the whole world could see what my eyes see. The mountain light dances on the tree leaves in the softest way, like light only looks in the fall most places, as if photosynthesis works best when it’s pretty.
The moonstone-blue sky is so intense that even the afternoon mountain showers can’t really conceal it. Life abounds everywhere, and each flora and fauna exhibit a rhythm in their existence. All the rhythms dance together symbiotically, and our little family tries to gently insert ourselves into this existence, hopefully not impacting it at all but instead appreciating great impacts on ourselves.
