Here it is ladies: the best advice I've ever read regarding crampy periods. The week before your period, take as many epsom salt baths as you can fit in. I tried it this period and the results were shocking . I've had chronically painful cramps my whole life. I've even had surgery to alleviate the endometriosis that inflames them. I read that endometriosis and crampy periods get better after childbirth, and they didn't.
I read this advice in this book I've praised a lot here lately: Smart Medicine for a Healthier Child (it was advice for you teenage child, but everything in this book works for adults, too). I only had time for two epsom salt baths in the past few days (I have two young children, after all!
), but that seemed to be enough to notice a huge decrease in my pain. I'm sitting here writing instead of laying in bed moaning, mainly. The book mentioned that you could take magnesium supplements orally in place of the baths, but why would I want to do that? Yuck. Somebody try it and let me know what happens, so I can find out if my results were anomalous.
