Latest from Burma is that Aung San Suu Kyi is being held in Insein Prison, just in time for her 58th Birthday. No sign of release from this "protective custody", which apparently is the same as being in jail. She has no access to a legal process, since Burma has no such thing. Her vehicle was attacked by goverment-sponsored thugs at a recent speech in northern Burma, and they jailed her and several other members of the NLD, blaming them for the violence. At the recent ASEAN conference, neighboring nations condemned her imprisonment but said nothing about imposing sanctions. The US is quite serious about furthering sanctions and freezing assets of the Burmese military junta's leaders; however, since the US doesn't trade a whole lot with Burma, the effects would not be as great as sanctions imposed by other SE Asian countries.
