You know, I'm not sure if Mr. Hanmer's teaching style has changed since I was a Freshman or if it's just because I've had more experience in different English classes, but I'm really not enjoying his class this time around. I mean, I feel like he has his opinions about the book and the characters, and while he seems to encourage people's opinions on subjects, he only agrees with certain ones (even if he doesn't say anything... this is just a feeling I get). Also, he keeps on rambling on about how the "book reads you", which I understand, but he keeps saying it after I point anything out, which is a bit annoying after a while. Especially since I feel like he's saying that because he doesn't agree with me, even if other people express similar opinions. Also, he really loves to insult math and science. I understand that he's an English teacher, so he doesn't necessarily excel at them, but does that mean that he has to insult them at every turn?
I don't insult English just because it isn't my favorite subject! I'm not even sure if what I just said makes it sound like how I feel things are going, but it really is starting to irk me... and it's only been like 2 weeks. I mean, there are good things about that class, but still... Grr. Oh, and oddly enough, I had quite a nice conversation with Dr. Nick (of all people) today in the MRC.
It was kind of random, but she was very reassuring of the fact that it's not just the students who are afraid of Mrs. Lawrence... I don't know, there was more to it than that. Anyway, it was strangely nice talking with her. Even if she was being he usual, extremely talkative self...
