urlLink www.phayul.com : "It is unlikely that Tibet's spiritual leader the Dalai Lama will meet Prime Minister Paul Martin during a visit to Canada next month, Foreign Minister Bill Graham said.
" The Dalai Lama is visiting Canada next month but as happens in many countries that he visits he is unlikely to be welcomed "officially" despite the fact that he is the head of a recognised world religion. This is a point that is constantly brought up whenever the Lama visits foreign countries The reason is that these governments do not officially recognise the Tibetan Government in Exile as being "legitimate" and as such any official reception would be against diplomatic protocol and bring very loud howls of protest from the People's Republic.
I do not think that this phases the Lama as much as it appears to phase the Tibetan's supporters. He has said on many occasions that he personally does not seek the "separation" of Tibet from China, but only wants, like the majority of Uygurs want for themselves , to be afforded freedom from persecution, cultural self determination and a degree of autonomy.
