  "  a poem should be like proving a theorem to be true- a beautiful,  structured,  logical set of axioms,  and equations and givens to prove that yes,  if a is equivalent to b and b is equivalent to c ,  then a is equivalent to c .  wrote this to sam in the summer of 2003.  i was gabbing about poetry and mathematics and the parallels between the two disciplines.
 and here's something from Virginia Woolf,  a mood in which I'm in right now:

I want to think quietly,  calmly,  spaciously,  never to rise from my chair,  to slip easily from one thing to another,  without any sense of hostility,  or obstacle.  I want to to sink deeper and deeper,  away from the surface,  with its hard separate facts.  To steady myself,  let me catch hold of the first idea that passes.
