Wash BEFORE Knitting Response to "barnyard smelling" Peace Fleece: The Peace Fleece comes in reeled hanks as opposed to "pull" skeins. I DON'T use a washing machine, I un-twist the hanks and put them in a sink of warm water with maybe 2-4 drops of mild dish liquid and gently squeeze the soapy water through the yarn. Then I drain the sink and fill with clear (no soap) water and squeeze it through the yarn, do this as many times as it takes to get the soap out. On the last rinse I do the cream rinse thing(about teaspoon), rinse once more. I then place the hanks in a pillow case and let my washing machine SPIN ONLY all the excess water out.
Then I drape the hanks over a line to dry. Since I live in upstate NY where it is still quite cold, I used the line in the basement. Outside in good weather would be faster. Should dry in about 24 hours. This worked beautifully for my Rogue Hoodie, which I also over-dyed because the Moscow Magic Pink was too flesh toned for me. So if you don't like your color, dye it!
