Following a link through from a referrer ( urlLink Mousemusings just added me to their blogroll - hello Cyndy and thankyou, and hello to Cyndy's readers!
) I find a urlLink review by Paul A. Green of urlLink The Stone Tape , a scifi horror TV drama by Nigel Kneale, which has remained vivid in my memory despite my not having seen it since its first screening in 1972. (It''s been released on VHS & DVD now). In case you're not familiar, The Stone Tape explored the idea that the physical environment can act as a recording medium. The play used images of technological investigation of "paranormal" phenomena, which was an impressive idea to me at the time.
It was also scary as hell, beck then, though I suspect it wouldn't pack the same punch today. The Stone Tape is of historical interest on a number of accounts. (Oddly enough, I recently found a report of experimental verification of rather similar phenomena urlLink here ...) There are more of Paul Green's reviews for CultureCourt listed urlLink here and urlLink here is his own site. There's a notable overlap between his cultural preoccupations and mine, although I haven't read enough yet to assess his conclusions (if any).
There's also a Jesuit education mentioned in the early paragraphs of his William Burroughs piece, which is how I found him in the first place. I'll be having a look at more of his stuff when I find some time...
