Hebrews 12 7Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? 8If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. 9Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! 10Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness.
11No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Sometimes it seems like we've been forsaken by God. When times are tough on us, we tend to lose sight of it all. The world caves in, we lose friends, and it seems like God is a cruel kid on an anthill burning us with a huge magnifying glass. There's no escaping pain in our life. Almost daily we experience misery, loss, rejection, pain, and suffering in various forms and degrees. What we often fail to see is that these experiences are proof of God's love for us. When it all falls apart, we can rest assured that at the very least God has not forsaken us.
Only through hardships can we develop into better people. God knows this, and doing His duty as a loving father, he ensures that we experience hardships so that we may grow to be more like Him. The tough part is often continuing to trust in God while we are down, especially since He's in control. We have to remember that it's for our own good, and He's doing this because He loves us very, very much. Lord, get me through this. Your friend, Kevin
