I'm big on alternatives so while my internship has revolved a lot more about looking at causes and effects of Climate Change I've done a little independent research on alternative energy. urlLink This article was interesting to me because it really brings home that these alternatives are really made for the rich and privileged and white only. Back in the day it was for the crunchy granola hippie type of privileged white folks and now its for the "chic" urban types too. Its a yuppie trend. A lot of the articles I have come upon in the mainstream talk about the rise of environmentally sound business and how these corporations are starting to find it profitable to be more ecologically sound.
And I guess thats good seeing as the powerful and elite are gonna do what they are gonna do but it still sits funny because its still the perpetuation of that capitalist mindset and I am sorry, even if its "green", capitalism is a destructive system that is not to the benefit of this earth. I cannot see how capitalism will ever be a fair and just system and that this way of life will ever be anything but contradictory to the kind of balance we need to gain in order to ever see anything resembling justice, peace, equality or any of those other pretty terms people are fighting for.
