Text: Discrete Mathematics with Applications Second Edition by Susanna Epp, 1995. ISBN 0-534-94446-9
Grading:

- Homework: 15%

- Quizzes: 15%

- 2 Midterms: 20% Each

- Final: 30%
Exams will be given in the evening (on the dates below), with all sections taking the same exam at the same time. In order to take a makeup exam, you must bring a documented university-approved excuse, and you must contact us before the time of the exam. The makeup exam will be given the day following the scheduled exam. You must also bring the documentation and contact information for your employer or doctor, etc, so that we may verify that you had a legitimate excuse. If you have a conflict during the final exam, you must contact your instructor at least two weeks before the final exam to arrange a makeup final. Verification of Visit forms from the health center are NOT sufficient for obtaining a makeup exam. The excuse must indicate the specific dates when you were unable to attend class. You will not be permitted to use calculators or any other aids on the exam.

     Anticipated Exam Dates

    • Exam 1: Thursday, October 16, 5:15-7:00 pm with location TBA.
    • Exam 2: Thursday, November 20, 5:15-7:00 pm with location TBA.
    • Final Exam: Wednesday, December 17, 4-6 pm with location TBA

The locations will be announced in lecture, lab and on the web page.

The times may need to slide slightly in order to acquire an appropriate classroom.

The dates may need to change in order to accommodate the topic coverage needed for that exam.

WebPage, Posting, Homework, Quizzes and Worksheets

Class Webpage: The class webpage will be located at http://www.cs.umd.edu/class/fall2003/cmsc250.  The website will have all of the homework assignments on it, and you will be expected to visit the class webpage regularly for updates on course information. You will also have the option of printing using the UNIX posting account ~jp250001 to get printouts of things using postscript.

Homework: Homework will be handed out on Wednesday, and will be collected the following Wednesday. Homework is due at the beginning of the discussion section that you are registered for on Wednesday and will not be accepted late without a valid documented excuse approved by your instructor. You must work alone on your homework, and homeworks must be written legibly, single-sided on your own paper with the answers clearly labeled and in sequential order as assigned (read further rules on homework description). You must put your name, your student ID, and the name of your TA and the time of your lecture and discussion section in the upper right-hand corner of your homework sheet. If you have multiple pages, staple them together, and be sure that your name is on every sheet.

Quizzes: Quizzes will be given during every Wednesday discussion section. Makeup quizzes will not be given, but if you provide a valid documented excuse, your quiz grade will be calculated using only your other quizzes.

Worksheets: Worksheets will be done during the discussion section on Mondays. These worksheets are for in class time and will not be collected, graded, or available at other times.
