cps4180 on Linux

Printing via printer.cs.umd.edu

The preferred method of printing is directly through the CS print server. The /usr/bin/lpr command has a -h arguement to specify the server. For example, to print foo.pdf:
/usr/bin/lpr -h printer.cs.umd.edu -P cps4180 foo.pdf

Use this command to print transparencies from supported UNIX systems:

Adding cps4180 to your local machine

(For occasions when you would prefer to have the printer available in programs.)

The Linux driver for this printer is provided through the HPLIP project.

Installing HPLIP

Chances are, HPLIP is already installed on your Linux machine; if not, installable packages are available for most major Linux distributions.

On Debian-based distros (including Ubuntu):
sudo apt-get install hplip

On Red Hat-based distros:
sudo yum install hplip
