Interactive Maryland Platform for Agents Collaborating Together

THE IMPACT PROJECT

IMPACT is an international research project led by the University of Maryland. The principal goal of the IMPACT project is to develop both a theory as well as a software implementation that facilitates the creation, deployment, interaction, and collaborative aspects of software agents in a heterogeneous, distributed environment. IMPACT provides a set of servers (yellow pages, thesaurus, registration, type and interface) that facilitate agent interoperability in an application independent manner. It also provides an Agent Development Environment for creating, testing, and deploying agents. The impact project will:

  • Provide techniques and tools to build agents on top of existing legacy code
  • Provide techniques and tools for agent interoperability
  • Provide techniques and tools to organize thousands of services offered by thousands of networked agents
  • Provide techniques and tools to facilitate collaborations between thousands of such agents
  • Provide secure agent-based e-commerce environments
  • Provide algorithms supporting a variety of applications including military command and control, supply chain and logistics, aircraft control, e-commerce, banking, plant monitoring and control, data mining, and personalized multimedia presentations.
