Gihan Jayatilaka : Resources : Field Selection (University of Peradeniya, Faculty of Engineering)
Edit (2026): The field selection landscape has changed dramatically in Peradeniya Engineering because of two new factors. (1) Introduction of a new BSc program (Electronic and Intelligence Systems Engineering) that doesn't come into the field selection, and (2) Introduction of Minors in older specialization programs. At this point in time, I'd strongly suggest you don't read any of the documents linked here!
Edit (2023): It has been a while since I put this page together. I strongly suggest you to look for up-to-date sources of information about field selection now. If you happen to have online resources about field selection, please email them to me so that I can improve this list.
This page is an attempt to answer the set of recurring questions about field selection. Everyone has their biases, opinions and preferences. Obviously, I have mine. The authors of the documents linked in this page have their's as well.

Hasindu Gamarachchi's FB post [Access this Public PDF if the FB link is not working] about the computer engineering program at University of Peradeniya for first year undergraduates picking a specializaiton. This post demystifies a large number of myths regarding computer engineering.
Disclaimer: Please note that adding this link here in no way implies a blanket endoresement. The anti-software-programming tone of the post comes from HG being one of the best embedded engineers in the world. Also, I don't have enough information to comment on his point about the depth of computer degree courses in different private institutes.
