Directions to Campus

Below are our directions for getting to the campus. (You might also want to look at the directions provided by the university.)

From the Capital Beltway

Get onto the NNE area of the Beltway (a circular highway that runs all the way around DC). Note: the highway numbering scheme is confusing. West of the intersection with I-95 going north to Baltimore, the Beltway is I-495. East of the same intersection, the Beltway is I-95.

To get to campus, take Exit 25-South from the Beltway onto Route 1 (also known as Baltimore Ave). This exit is immediately to the east of the Beltway/I95 interchange.

Continue south on Route 1. This portion of Route 1 is pretty crowded with small office buildings, some car dealers, and some fast-food places. The first entrance (and the main entrance) to campus is Campus Drive, a big intersection about 2 miles south of the Beltway. Just after you turn in, there is a place where you can pull off by a big map of campus. (There's a parking meter there.)

From the south on Route 1

If you are coming from DC, you might find it easier just to go north on Route 1. This does involve a fair bit of traffic, traffic lights and confusion, so it not particularly recommended for people from out of town.

Coming from the south, once you get into College Park, there will be traffic lights at Knox Road, College Ave, Rossoborough Drive and Campus Drive. You should turn left at Campus Drive. This is the main entrance to the campus, and the northernmost of the various entrances to campus from Route 1.

Directions to the Computer Science Department

Turn right immediately after getting onto Campus Drive from Route 1. You'll now be going north on Paint Branch Drive.

Parking. The best place to park is in Paint Branch Drive visitor lot, a pay lot that's one block north from AV Williams on the opposite side of the street. If you entered from Route 1, it's the next block after AV Williams, on the left-hand side.

Note that we are not located in the Computer and Space Sciences building elsewhere on campus. That building houses the people who run the university's computer network.

Directions to the Inn and Conference Center
    (formerly the Adult Education Center)

Just follow Campus Drive. You will go around a traffic circle (get off opposite of where you got on), go past the student union on your right, and then go through a long, gentle turn to the left. Just as this starts to straighten out, Campus Drive turns off to the right. The road that continues on ahead is Preinkert Drive. Continue down Campus Drive. The Adult Education Center is on the right, set off from the rest of the buildings on Campus. There should be plenty of signs.

If you get to Adelphi Road or University Boulevard, you have gone too far.
