Mon Oct 10 1:12 pm: I have posted the lecture notes (see Lectures link) for Wednesday Oct 13. Please bring a copy of them for Wednesday's lecture. On Wednesday I will go over information related to Project #3.
Wed Oct 5 11:45 pm: Evan Golub's office hours next Tuesday (10/11) and Thursday (10/13) will not be held. All other hours during the week remain unchanged.
Wed Oct 5 11:44 pm: The current textbook readings are
chapters 5 and 7. Chapter 5 gives more information and examples about
the UNIX operating system. Some of this reading might be helpful if you
are new to the UNIX system. Chapter 7 gives more information and
examples about the mail program within the UNIX environment.
Wed Oct 5 11:42 pm: The next in-class discussion readings are available through the Documents link.
Mon Oct 2 5:21 pm: The first midterm for the course will be on Monday Oct 10 in class (4-4:50 pm). Everything covered in class until Friday Oct 7 is valid material for the exam. More information about the exam will be provided in class on Wednesday. No review will be available.

7:39 am: As mentioned in class,
with some GLUE/GRACE accounts, e-mail messages are being automatically
forwarded to your web-based e-mail accounts. If this is the case for you
(if you send yourself a message from your WAM account to your GLUE
account and it ends up in your web-based account instead) then type the
following command at the GRACE prompt to generate an automated e-mail
message for your incoming mailbox on GLUE/GRACE:
/pub/nelsonp/GenerateMail
Use this message instead in this
part of the project when it asks you to include the email you got from
your WAM account.
If you remove your e-mail address from the .forward file as explained in lecture then you should be okay. Remember that if you removed your e-mail address from this file, you should add it once you finished this project.

Tue Sept 20 11:52 am: If you don't have a GLUE account you need to get one as you will use it for your second project. Information on how to get a GLUE account is available at:

Make sure you get this account by Thursday or Friday of this week. Keep in mind that a WAM account is not the same as a GLUE account.

Currently, we are accepting applications for this Fall (the program starts on Oct 1).
