Statement on Recruiting

We are thrilled that so many outstanding companies are interested in our computer science students at the University of Maryland! As such, our students often find themselves under a great deal of pressure to make a decision about where to start their careers.

We ask that if students are offered a full time position after a summer internship that students have until October 15th to make a decision about that offer. We ask that if students are offered a position during the fall or spring semester that students have three weeks from the date of a written offer to make a decision. The same holds true for students being offered summer internships in August or September.

We would like to reiterate our recruitment policies and remind you that by utilizing our events and services to recruit UMD students or alumni, you are agreeing to comply with UMD policies and applicable federal, state, and local laws. If you have questions or concerns about these policies, please let us know.

University of Maryland Career Center - Career Management Platform

The University of Maryland - College Park uses a career management platform called Handshake, to organize recruiting related requests for our students and alumni. Handshake is a free resource for you to use to request dates for information sessions, schedule OCI interview dates, register for fairs, post jobs/internships, and events, among other things.

If you encounter any issues with Handshake, please feel free to contact the University Career Center via email (careerfairs@umd.edu) or phone (301-314-7225).

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

The University Career Center & The President’s Promise will also host a campus-wide Fall 2023 Career & Internship Fair on September 26-28, 2023.
