Important Information for Students

Due to the large level of interest, the CS Career and Internship Fair is only open to the majors listed at the bottom of the page and CS Alumni.

*Important – You will need to upload your resume to careers4terps in advance to gain admittance to the fair.*

Before You Go To The Event

Read about the companies that will participate. This information can be found on the Career Fair website on the student page. There will be Tech Giants, Startups, Government Organizations, Fortune 500 companies, and Financial Institutions present at the Open House.

Review your resume and be prepared to be asked questions pertaining to it as well as to answer technical questions. Recruiters will have access to your resume and will write notes.

Be prepared to talk about yourself. Think about interesting projects that you have worked on outside of class, and review the classes that you have taken. Recruiters want to know about your interests, accomplishments and your goals and how you might fit into their company. Be confident in your abilities.

How to access and participate in a virtual career fair as a student on YouTube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZI6OkJPVbM.
The video covers:

  • Logging into C4T and finding the fair you're attending on the events calendar
  • Explaining the interface of a virtual career fair and clicking "Attend" to participate
  • Uploading your resume and changing profile information (if needed)
  • Engaging with employers in group chats and one-on-one chats
  • Joining queues and joining a one-on-one call with an employer
  • Ending a call and taking notes/accessing all of your notes

Dress

Even though this is a virtual career fair you will still have video chats with employers, so we recommend dressing the same way you would for an in-person fair. We encourage students to dress in a business casual attire.

Event Information

The fair will begin at 2pm and end at 7pm. Since this is a virtual event, things will be a little different this year. Once you log into your Careers4Terps account, you will be able to sign up to speak with employers. Some will have queues that you will have to sign up for, your place will be reserved in the order you sign up.

  • Once you are accepted into the virtual 1 on 1 with the recruiter, introduce yourself. Make sure you speak with confidence, slowly and clearly, make eye contact (look directly into the camera, not at yourself),and avoid fidgeting.
  • There will be a time limit set by employers for each 1 on 1 meeting between 5 and 10 minutes. They will automatically have the resume that you uploaded.
  • Your first order of business is to learn about internship or full time employment opportunities available to you. If you are interested in a very popular company or organization, please be prepared to wait for an opportunity to speak to a recruiter. You might want to spend some time looking at other companies CS Career and Internship Fair before settling in for a long wait.
  • Some companies may offer group sessions. If they do, we suggest attending these before signing up for a 1 on 1 with a recruiter so you can learn about the company and what they are looking for.
  • The Department and Career Services will also be offering help and tips for making the virtual career fair the best it can be for you so look for their group room.

Tips: Take notes and make sure you take the recruiter contact information.
Have a good time, and make sure that you meet people from many different companies and organizations. Sometimes, you can discover a place to work or intern that you had previously not considered.

After The Event

Make sure that you check your email (and spam folder) as well as your voicemail after the fair in case a recruiter wants to set up an interview with you. The interview process can be long and arduous—if you don’t get a phone call or email right away, do not panic.
