Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Combinatorics and Algorithms for Real Problems (CAAR)

Information about Past programs:

We have run REU-CAAR from 2013-2020. You can learn what we did then from the sidebar. In addition there is: Report on the program 2016-2018

Summer 2021 Dates: June 7 - August 13, 2021

WHAT IS REU-CAAR ?

Research Experience For Undergraduates (REU) in Combinatorics and Algorithms for Real Problems (CAAR) is a 10 week NSF funded research program designed to bridge the gap between the theory (algorithms, probability, combinatorics, Theoretical Machine Learning, others) and other disciplines within Computer Science (AI, Operations Reseach, practical machine learning, others.) Rather than wax philosophical about this just go Look at the Projects!

HOW TO APPLY?

Applications Deadline is March 15, 2021. Go to the left!!! You will see a tab that says Apply. Click on it!

WHO CAN APPLY?

All undergrads who have a basic understanding of Algorithms, Discrete Mathematics, and Computer Programming are encouraged to apply. Must be a citizen or permanent resident. We have some (not much!) money to provide some support for some non-citizens from American schools. If you are in this category say so in your personal essay. If your school will pay for some of the cost then let us know. (All students who apply must be attending an American school.)

The program will be virtual; however, all participants must be IN AMERICA during the program.

WHAT WILL YOU GET?

A summer of research that is awesome and fun!

Students will be provided with $6000 as stipend for the duration of the programme.

Because of the COVID pandemic the program will be virtual.

If at some later time a paper comes out of the summer research and gets into a conference, there may be money to support travel to that conference to present.

OTHER PROGRAMS TO APPLY TO

Since Summer Programs are compeitive its good to apply to several. Here are some:
