University of Maryland alum Bryant Lee (B.S. ’06, computer science; B.S. ’06, mathematics) has been making waves in the tech industry for over a decade. Today, Lee serves as the co-founder and CEO of Vaero, an enterprise software company that is redefining cybersecurity approaches across industries.

Lee’s education laid a strong foundation for his entrepreneurial endeavors. After graduating from UMD in 2006, he further honed his skills at Carnegie Mellon University, earning a master’s degree in computer science in 2009. Lee's quest for knowledge continued at Harvard Law School, where he graduated with his J.D. in 2012.

"The University of Maryland provided excellent groundwork for my computer science background. It was there that I truly delved into computer science for the first time," Lee expressed. "UMD nurtured my maturity and skill development as a computer scientist. Although I pursued graduate studies afterward, my undergraduate years at UMD were invaluable, providing most of my knowledge and growth. Collaboration with fellow students and guidance from exceptional professors greatly enriched my learning journey."

Finding the Right Path

Throughout his entrepreneurial journey, Lee has left an indelible mark. As the CEO and founder of Justice Toolbox, Lee leveraged technology to enhance access to justice, creating innovative tools that transformed the legal landscape. Then, as the co-founder and CEO of Cognition IP, he pioneered a groundbreaking integration of machine-learning techniques into patent law. Lee's visionary approach and trailblazing success exemplify his unwavering commitment to innovation and driving positive change.

Now, with Vaero, Lee is addressing a critical need in the industry: enabling organizations to consolidate their cybersecurity data from multiple systems into a single, unified location. By streamlining this complex process, Vaero alleviates the burden on companies, offering an unprecedented capability to collect and centralize data—an invaluable solution in an era where cybersecurity concerns are paramount.

"The turning point came when I started my first company in 2018. Studying computer science offered the leverage and wide-reaching impact I sought," Lee revealed. "With venture capital investments, we could grow our company, hire more people, and truly make a difference. That's how Cognition IP came to be—a successful technology-based legal solution generating substantial annual revenue from top investors. Eventually, I pivoted towards Vaero, delving deeper into core computer science and cybersecurity."

Lee's deep-rooted understanding of computer science, coupled with his experience in cybersecurity and enterprise B2B ventures, plays a pivotal role in shaping Vaero's innovative approach to addressing the complexities of cybersecurity. With the field constantly evolving to counter new threats, Lee's expertise and strategic vision position Vaero at the forefront of this dynamic and ever-changing landscape.

"Our vision for Vaero is to become the leading company that addresses security challenges for enterprises worldwide," Lee explained. "We recognize the ubiquity of these problems and aim to provide solutions that enhance software security, safeguarding against hackers and malicious actors. Our goal is to have Vaero installed in every enterprise, fortifying their cybersecurity measures."

The world will keep watching as Lee continues to make waves and propel businesses toward a new era of security-driven success.
