2020 Human Computer Interaction Lab Virtual Symposium Thursday, May 28th

On Thursday, May 28th, 2020, the Human Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL) at the University of Maryland will be celebrating its 37 years of transforming the experience people have with new technologies by hosting a Virtual HCIL Symposium.  Part of that symposium features the Human-Centered AI: Reliable, Safe & Trustworthy (HCAI) workshop, which will highlight HCIL members and colleagues’ dedicated and innovative human-centered AI technologies research.

From understanding user needs, to developing and evaluating those technologies, the lab’s faculty, staff, and students have been leading the way in HCI research and teaching.

The HCAI workshop held jointly with the HCIL symposium will be focused towards exploring case studies, guidelines, principles, and theories to design advanced technologies that bring the benefits of AI methods, while ensuring appropriate human control. Talks will include presentations on innovative research including UX and accessibility, demonstrations of new technologies, and discussions by key leaders in the HCI field.  It is organized jointly by CS@UMD faculty members Ben Shneiderman and John Dickerson, as well as iSchool faculty member Hernisa Kacorri.

The Virtual symposium is free for all attendees but registration is required. The symposium will have a live plenary session and five breakout sessions. The details of the symposium can be found here.
