Andrew Mendez is a PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Maryland, College Park, advised by Prof. Furong Huang. His research focuses on self-improving AI agents and the safety and alignment of recursively self-improving AI systems. He has a background in machine learning research and engineering spanning AI agents, large language models, computer vision, and scalable ML systems, with experience at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Clarifai, and CACI. He holds an M.S. from Cornell Tech and the Technion and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Central Florida.
